About Me:

Kathryn Zettl
Hometown: Morehead City, NC

I have been living in Charleston, SC the past 2 years and attended the Medical University of SC where I got my degree in Occupational Therapy. I recently took a traveling therapy job so I will be moving to a different city about every 3 months, hence the reason for this blog. I want all my friends and family to stay connected with me as I make my trek across the US. With that said I invite all of you to follow my travels, kitchen endeavors, and occasional mischief :)

Live Music Capital of the World, Hello Austin!

Great food and live music were alive and well in Austin last weekend. It was a spur of the moment trip that will go down in the record books! The day's festivities included exploring in a trendy area on Congress st. featuring unique stores, open market and even one of my new favorites....food trucks! Really, every city should have more food trucks (do I see a potential 2nd career in my future?)

Hey Cupcake! foodtruck
The rest of the foodtruck fleet.

We also ate at a Frank Hotdogs and Cold Beer. Mom and Dad you guys would have loved this place! Anna and I being from NC had to go with "the Carolina pork it"; a hotdog wrapped in bacon and deep-fried with fresh slaw and pimento cheese, wrapped in a corn pancake style bun. Need I say more?

We finished the night with a late dinner at the Roaring Fork and then hit 6th street for some live music and bar hopping. A longer trip to Austin is already in the works!

Houston Farmers Market

The roomies and I took at trip to the Houston farmers market this past weekend. Here is what we came away with: home made chocolate with bourbon, almonds, and caramel, green tomatoes (so I can bring a little South Carolina to Texas), pickled okra, and some fresh Mediterranean goat cheese. I would say we will be eating well this coming week!

Texas!

Well its been a few weeks here and I have to say that Texas is growing on me! I am loving my job in rehab; I have great patients and coworkers, although it took me a while to acclimate to a full time job.  I have found a little time in my busy schedule to have some Texas fun! Thanks to my wonderful roommates and their friends I have already attended a steak and wine festival, an A&M football game,  gone 2 stepping (more practice is needed on that), and eaten some GREAT brisket! More stories to come!
My Roommate's lovely cake she made me!

The crazy A&M fans!!! GOO AGGIES!

New Orleans

From Crawfish Etouffee to the sights and sounds of the French Market, NOLA was a great pit-stop on my journey to Texas. Dad gave us a tour of Tulane, complete with a few stories of his shenanigans in undergrad. Good eats included the Gumbo Shop, Po' Boys in Audubon Park, and Beignets at Cafe Du Monde.
Beignets at Cafe Du Monde mmmm!

Rob and I also got to experience a night out on Bourbon St...."Hurricanes", endless bars, and the lack of an open container law made for an interesting night! A may just be coming back to NOLA sooner than I think.

Last Night in Chucktown

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect last night in Chucktown. Erynn, my roommate for the last 2 years and I went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Ai Di La. I am leaving Charleston just the way I entered, with two of my favorite people Erynn and Molly (dog). Thanks for making my time her unforgettable. I love you both :)

Ready or Not...

Well, much to the dismay of all my east coast friends and family I will be leaving my beloved Carolinas and venturing a bit further west.  Here are a few hints as to my new destination:

*I will be packing my cowboy boots....all 3 pairs.
*A visit to Costco to stock up on bulk hairspray is a MUST.
*Maybe I can land myself a cowboy! (Pro, or the kind with the hat- no preference)
*There may be more cattle in this state than people, cow tippin' anyone?

That's right I am headed to TEXAS, the Lone Star State! I will be living in College Station; home of the Aggies of Texas A&M! Here is a little bit of what is to come:

I will be leaving Charleston, SC on September 30th with my partner in crime, Rob Crabtree who has so willingly (and may I venture to say idiotically) agreed to tackle this road trip with me! We will be packing up the pathfinder and driving to New Orleans where we will meet my Dad. As many of you know, Dad spent his college years at Tulane so we will be reliving the "good ole days" with him in New Orleans before heading to Texas. I am documenting this experience with lots of pictures and videos....that is if I can figure out how to navigate this blog! So stay tuned friends and family because the adventure has just begun!   YEEEEEEHAWWWW!!!
